Diolch yn fawr iawn

After 3 weeks on the road (and canal) it’s time to catch up and what I have been doing in recent weeks

A very big thank you must go to all the people who made my tour of Welsh (June 28th-July3rd) such a success.

An outstanding hero was Nia Lynn Jones at Momentwm public relations in Mold. She is an outstanding example of what I call a ‘Connector’ – someone who makes things happen for you. I am forever in her debt. Thanks also to each of the other connectors who made it happen at their events.

Each of the 15 events over the four days provided new, different dimensions to the challenges faced by the global economic recession and how it impacts on different people. You tend to forget for example, how the DVLA has also been hit by a slowdown in buying new cars, while highly innovative companies like Biocatalysts are flying the Welsh flag high for innovation in the world markets

It was really inspiring meeting so many great, nice people. It made me realize also what a beautiful country Wales is: with such magnificent scenery.

I surprisingly also enjoyed the rare delights of a heat wave while travelling with the roof down on my ‘world’s smallest conference centre’ (a 2 seater Smart Car).

It led me to begin my talks with the line: “I feel a bit of a fraud standing in front of you as someone urging you to think flexibly, to be prepared for the unexpected, when I have travelled to Wales in an open top car – and forgot to bring my sun tan lotion!”

I enjoyed my live interview in the studios of BBC Radio Wales on the Jamie and Louise show, despite having to follow a lady promoting wine – with an in studio tasting!

The Tour enabled me to road test my material for my new book. It has made me change its title from ‘The Upturn: my part in its rise’ to ‘The Upturn: your part in its rise’. It now has a sub tilte: ‘How to be a green shoot’ . The story is of how each of us can seize, what I call ‘Golden Swan opportunities in the age of disruption’ by thinking flexibly, and thinking flexibly faster and its theme is about being resourceful.

I am currently getting feedback from my beta readers to get to the publishers by the end of this month.
